The South Pole Telescope: From SPTpol to SPT-3G

The South Pole Telescope (SPT) is a 10 meter CMB telescope located at the Amundsen Scott South Pole Station. From 2012 to 2017 SPTpol, the 1st polarization sensitive camera on the SPT, took observations of the CMB. In 2017 SPT-3G, a new camera with 2,700 tri-chroic pixels and 16,200 transition edge sensor bolometers was installed on the SPT. I will summarize some of the recent results using SPTpol data while highlighting the first transient search through CMB data. I will then discuss the technology of the SPT-3G camera along with its current status and science goals.
