Globular Clusters: Mysteries Inside an Enigma

Globular clusters, the oldest surviving entities in the universe, are pivotal for early galaxy formation and evolution. The contents of these ancient objects are currently not well understood because precision photometry has caused an astonishing and fundamental change in our understanding of
Milky Way globular clusters. Namely they are no longer thought to be coeval and chemically homogeneous. Study of clusters in our galaxy and in the nearby Magellanic Clouds with spectroscopic
techniques reveals surprising results about their stars and origin,  and challenges our theoretical understanding.
