Virtually all star forming galaxies contain atomic hydrogen. Using the 305-meter Arecibo telescope and its radio camera ALFA, the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA survey, ALFALFA is conducting a census of gas-bearing galaxies in the local universe.
