Gas Flows and Galaxy Evolution
Galaxy-scale outflows of gas are ubiquitous in galaxies at high redshifts, and have profound consequences for the evolution of galaxies and the intergalactic medium. Inflows of gas, while much more difficult to observe, are required in order to fuel extended and powerful star formation. I will discuss a variety of observations aimed at constraining gas outflow and inflow over the redshift range 1<z<3, including a range of spectroscopic diagnostics of outflows in absorption and emission and measurements of chemical evolution.
