March 18th, 2013

A paper coauthored by Alex Hayes and Jonathan Lunine, has won the "2012 Publication Award for Outstanding Research Paper in an Externally Refereed Publication" by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The paper was lead authored by Elizabeth Turtle, an APL Scientist, and published in 2011. It describes Cassini observations of an outburst of clouds above the surface of Saturn's moon Titan, followed by darkening interpreted to be moistening of the ground by methane rain. Ralph Lorenz, another APL scientist and frequent collaborator with Lunine and Hayes, also shared the award.
